THE CULT TO PERFORM AT PALLADIUM CONCERT HALL THIS SUMMER
British hard rock legends The Cult will be performing in Latvia for the first time on June 11, taking the stage at Palladium Riga! Members of the FBI and Positivus Festival concert club will have access to pre-sale tickets starting March 19 at 11:00 AM, using a pre-sale code that will be sent to registered users.
The Cult was formed in 1983 in Bradford, England, emerging as part of the British post-punk and gothic rock movement, reshaping the European music scene at the time. Over the years, with the help of top rock producers, their sound evolved into a hard rock powerhouse, earning them global popularity.
Their debut album “Dreamtime” reached the top spot on the UK indie album charts, drawing major attention. By the time they released their second album, “Love” (1985), The Cult had already embarked on international tours. “Our music is simply melodies and guitars. We’re like Big Country and U2 - just better!” frontman Ian Astbury once said in a 1985 interview - an ambitious statement, but one that reflects his charismatic personality and sharp sense of humor.
A pivotal moment in their career was their move to Los Angeles, where they collaborated with some of America’s biggest rock bands. In 1987, an up-and-coming “Guns N’ Roses” opened for “The Cult” on their U.S. tour. Later, they toured alongside rock icons Aerosmith and Metallica.
Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy have remained the band’s core members since its inception more than 40 years ago, while drummers and bassists have rotated over the years. Their studio recordings and live performances have featured musicians from “KISS”, “Guns N’ Roses”, “AC/DC”, “Uriah Heep”, “My Chemical Romance”, “Pixies”, “Kasabian”, and even Ozzy Osbourne and Billy Idol’s backing bands.
Despite hiatuses over the years, The Cult has continued to tour and release new music, including critically acclaimed albums in the past two decades. In February 2025, Astbury revealed that the band is working on new material but is adapting to modern music consumption trends. “The album format is dead,” he stated, adding that while a full album release isn’t guaranteed, fans can expect fresh new songs as soon as they’re ready.
